For those of you that follow me on Twitter you will know how excited I was that this months OM Yoga Magazine is a pregnancy special featuring their very first pregnant cover model! Go Yoga-Mamas!
I love that yoga has become standard practice for mums-to-be nowadays and the series of articles in this months September edition is a fantastic resource for all the beautiful pregnant ladies out there!
I'm now well into my second trimester and have found the series of articles ranging from pregnancy meditation, beneficial prenatal yoga poses and yoga for the all important fourth trimester really interesting and somewhat reassuring; I have especially loved a short article called "Mindful Mama" by yoga teacher Vixie Tonkin.
In it she reminds us of how pregnancy is a fantastic time to embrace the present moment as changes and new experiences pull us into a new realm of awareness. Pregnancy can be a time of immense uncertainty, physical changes, and - as nausea, aches, pains and other ailments creep into our daily lives - a time of emotional upheaval as we find ourselves in a constant state of flux.
Throughout my first 20 weeks I have found it all too easy to be drawn into an environment of anxious thoughts and feelings resulting from a wealth of well-meaning advice, tips, do's, don'ts and shoulds that have inevitably come my way since we annoucned our pregnancy. I am sure that these anxieties have utimately removed me from the present moment - from really experiencing the subtle shifts and changes that have occurred - and instead have left me wondered if I am doing 'being pregnant' correctly.
Since reading this article however I have realised that although I do need to follow certain advice and guidelines, I would also benefit from following my intuition and the natural instincts that come from being a new Mum and to trust my own body and what it tells me each and every day.
I have also started to take time to practice brumary, golden thread and ujaii breathing everyday which, as well as supposedly being a fantastic tool for labour, have allowed me to feel a greater connection to our growing baby.
If you fancy checking out this months OM Yoga Magazine and all of the great pregnancy info, you can download it for on £1-99. Well worth it and a great resource!
