BOOK REVIEW // YOGA GIRL BY RACHEL BRATHEN

I got my hands of the much anticipated Yoga Girl by Rachel Brathen a few months ago.  I'm an impatient Nelly so rather than waiting for it to come out in the UK last month, I took to Amazon and nabbed a second hand copy of the US version. I am so glad I did.  The book is a combination of Rachel's own story, recipes, yoga and some well rounded advice and guidance on how we can all live happier, more balanced lives.

Sounds too simple, right?  Well, actually, no.

A lot of Rachel's advice comes from a place of experience: she has lived through family tragedies, her mother's attempted suicide, troubled teenage years and, more recently, the death of her best friend.  Her pain and her views -  her narrative - are from a place of knowing.  It is from this place and through her honesty that she has inspired over 1.5 million Instagram followers through a combination of meditation, yoga, openness and humour.

The first sentence of the book reads: "I firmly believe that real change and true happiness come from acceptance."  It is a simple premise and yet a powerful one: accept who we are, what we have, where we are and only then can we find true happiness - a happiness created through contentment and peace.

To anyone looking for a path through troubled times or even for anyone looking for some common sense advice on living a simpler, grounded and happier life through yoga this book is definitely worth a read.

Namaste xx
