Hey guys. As an OM Yoga & Lifestyle Blogger I am lucky enough to get a complementary digital copy of their magazine each month and this week have been taking time to digest the wonderful array of articles in Novembers issue.
I really love this magazine. It covers such a wide range of topics and as the name suggests, it is more focussed around yoga as a lifestyle choice as opposed to an exercise technique such as running or pilates - which of course it is. It is full of nutritional, physical and spiritual guidamce and is a great source of information for all those trying to follow a healthy, yogic lifestyle.
One article that particularly stood out for me this time was "Guilt-Free Savasana" by Myrite Rotstein.
It's an article that resonated with me as soon as I read it, quite simply, because I have found what I can only describe as a deep solace in Savasana in the last couple of months. With our busy modern lives we are always so continually 'switched-on' with social media, instant communication and the need to do everything at once, that in the frenzy of getting things done and keeping busy we are often forget to really take time to recooperate, reflect and, most importantly, rest.
This has become all the more important lately as my pregnancy has progressed through its second trimester and fatique has forced rather than tempted me to do less. Rest has become something that I have come to crave and treasure and I have started to incorporate moments of quiet Savasana into my everyday life, be it a quiet ten minutes after lunch; a series of cleansing centering breaths; a deep, warm bath or a five minute guided meditation.
The effect has been wonderful. Instead of berating myself for feeling lazy or self-indulgent, I have found great spiritual growth and physical rejuventaion from taking the time to experience the present, and have come to use new-found quiet moments to feel new sensations in my body, calm my mind and breathe. As a result I have found myself more energised and better able to deal with daily stresses, strains and worries of everyday life.
The effect of Savasana has be truly incredible for such a seemingly simple pose and I can now see why it is regarded as the very most important of all yoga poses. Taking that time, making the space and setting the intention for self appreciation, reflection and care has allowed me to connect to the present experience in a way I had never previouly known, and has given me, not only a renewed sense of calm, but also greater self awareness and a deep bond with our unborn baby.
It is amazing how inspiring a seemingly simple magazine article can be. If you fancy reading more you can download the full article at OM Yoga & Lifestyle Magazine for only £1-99. I would highly highly recommend it!
