REVIEW: REN Mayblossom T-Zone Control Cleansing Gel

I received a sample of REN products a while ago when I stayed in a bit of a swish hotel with the hubby.  I had been curious about them for while as I had heard good things; they appealed to me because they were free from SLS/SLES, parabens, PEGs, synthetic fragrance etc - the so-called baddies of the cosmetics industry - and I wanted to see if they were up to the job.

In our wee hotel bathroom we were presented with a mixture of shower gels and body creams along with a selection of face products including Vita Mineral Daily Moisturising Cream, Active-7 Radiance Eye Gel and Frankincense Revitalising Night Cream

It was a small bottle of their Mayblossom T-Zone Control Cleanser, however, that was the real star attraction.  I suffer generally with dry/combination skin with clogged-up, relatively oily pores on my t-zone, nose and chin and super dehydrated cheeks and eye area.  I know loads of people suffer with the same skin-type and I have tried multiple products that claim to deal it that, quite frankly, don't.  I was still waiting to find one until I stumbled upon this beauty.

It is quite simply amazing.

The cleanser is, as the name suggests, a gel but it is also rather intriguing as it is incredibly light, yet satisfyingly luxurious.  In other words, I felt as though I was giving my face a really thorough clean, but I was aware that I was doing it with something pretty special.  That something special seems to be Australian blue cypress oil - a gentler alternative to tea-tree and used by Aboriginal tribes to clear decongested skin and soothe minor skin irritations.  Willow bark extract adds antimicrobial and exfoliation properties too and my skin certainly felt much smoother after I used it.

I am so used to rinsing off cleansers and feeling as though I needed to stretch my face out.  This cleanser left no residue and left my face feeling beautifully refined, hydrated and smooth even before it had had a whiff of moisturiser.  It also carried on its job right throughout the day.  My skin stayed wonderfully balanced, my t-zone relatively matt and my cheeks comfortable with no dryness whatsoever.  I was flabbergasted at the difference a cleanser could make to my daily routine but I would highly recommend this to anyone struggling with oily/dehydrated/combination skin.
