AN ODE TO IRISH RAIN...

I have been listening to the rain.

It seems to provide us with such an astounding opportunity to be in the present that I have found myself simply listening to it for a moment or two, resetting: to be mindful so to speak.

I adore the fact that unlike so many things, it's rhythms and pattern are impossible to preempt. It can make us wonder: Will the drops fall this way, that? Will it sweep over the house like a great tsunami or patter gently on the slates? Will it wash all clean or overwhelm the gutters and drains and encompass us in a putrid flood? Will it's inherent life giving force seep into our being, nourish our spirit and allow us to grow?  Or will the sound of it simply soothe us and send us softly off to sleep ?

We might consider all or none of these notions and yet as I listen, I find there is a beautiful message in the voice of the rain that gives me a continual reminder of my core self: that of  being so deeply, unbreakably embedded in nature that we sometimes simply need to take a moment to notice it - without judgement - and to be grateful for our part in a bigger whole.

I am humbled by that. The rain binds us. Just as we are bound together in the universe through the very elemental compounds that make us, the rain's precious vital function pulls us together in unity through sheer basic human need: it levels, cleanses and nourishes.

I am comforted by the unity that the rain water brings and celebrate our ability to hear its message by allowing ourselves to embrace our oneness with existence. That is my sound of the rain. What will yours be?

Namaste xx
