With the summer break hard on our heels and the kids having gained traction in all things reading and counting after a decidedly past bumpy few years, I was really keen to make the most of all the progress they had made and avoid the dreaded summer slip.
With a nearly full 8 weeks of holidays laying ahead however, I was acutely aware that in order to do that we had to find someway of keeping our maths and literacy momentum going, without feeling like I was nagging them to do anything akin to homework - they deserve the break after all!
Step forward Albert Junior.
Albert Junior is an award winning app designed for 3-9 year olds. We are using it solely for its Maths curriculum but it's premium package also covers English, Coding and Geography if you wanted a broader range of topics.
It is split into 3 levels starting with basic counting skills and number recognition all the way through to numbers up to 1000, telling the time, angles, basic geometry, fractions and algebra with kids able to take baby steps if need be and progress at their own pace. I've found it's also a great way of taking time to connect with the kids getting them to sit down with me and go through some sections in the same way that we would read aloud stories too.
Our 5 year old has been working her way through level one over the past few weeks and with only 10 minutes a day is slowly building her confidence working with numbers up to 20 and managing basic sums. She loves the fun graphics and computer game-like interface and is so proud already of the progress she has made (and I have already noticed).
Parents can also access an online dashboard which allows parents to keep track of each child's progress.

Happy learning!!
