Learn how to make a Homemade Body Scrub from recycled coffee grounds, balancing essential oils and all natural, store cupboard ingredients.
It is so easy to make a Homemade Body Scrub using only store cupboard essentials.
This recipe uses only natural ingredients such as an essential oil blend and extra virgin olive oil. It is also a fabulous way to use up and recycle old ground coffee that would otherwise be thrown into the compost bin.
Scrubs are such a fantastic way to have a mini-spa day at home. This one can be used on the hands or the body and makes the skin beautifully smooth and moisturised. The caffeine in the coffee also gives dull skin a real pick me up so it's a great one for morning showers when you need a kick start!
I love using natural ingredients to make my own beauty products. The sea salt in this scrub will scuff away dead skin cells and also impart trace minerals such as magnesium, calcium and iodine into the skin.
Scrubs are also a great way to boost your circulation. Simply apply the scrub to wet or dry skin and massage using long motions working always towards the heart.
How to Make a Homemade Recycled Coffee Body Scrub
I really love making this scrub because it is made using ingredients that most of us have in our kitchen cupboards. It is also a great way of reducing food waste.
Supplies
- Sea Salt
- Ground Coffee
- Olive Oil
- Essential Oils (I used Neal's Yard Remedies Women's Balance for this recipe, but you can find more essential oil combinations at the end of this post).
I use old coffee grounds for this recipe but, of course, you could use new ones if you wanted to.
If I am planning to make this scrub, I simply save my old coffee for a couple of days. I then line a baking tray with some grease-proof paper, spread my coffee out and leave it to dry in a very low oven for a few hours.
Making Your Recycled Coffee Body Scrub
2 tbsp sea salt
3 tbsp dried coffee grounds
2tbsp extra virgin olive oil
10 drops Neal's Yard Remedies Women's Balance Essential Oil Blend.
Add all of your ingredients into a clean bowl and mix really well. Store in a sealed container. I like to make mine in small batches so that I know I am using the freshest product possible.
To use your scrub simply apply generously to dry or wet skin and rub in using a long stroking motion, always working towards the heart. This will boost your circulation and also your lymphatic system encouraging the elimination of toxins.
Always stand inside a bath or shower cubicle to apply the scrub and be aware that the oil in this scrub could make surfaces slippery!
