Despite the weather we ventured up to Benone Beach yesterday for a half term day out.
Situated at the very northerly point of Northern Ireland is is a 20 minute drive west of Coleraine and boasts spectacular views with sand dunes and waterfall laden cliffs behind; views of County Donegal to the west and and the stunning Mussenden Temple to the east. It's one of our favourite spots for easy child friendly days out.
The firm sand made for ideal bike riding practice (before the hail saw us fleeing for the van) and digging holes, gathering shells and splashing in the water (in full waterproofs) provided the rest of the day's entertainment.
Sadly the fabulous beach cafe was closed due to reduced winter hours but we made do with a simple picnic and coffee for Mum and Dad in the JetBoil.
For the past few years we have been taking part on the 1000hoursoutside annual challenge, trying to be more intentional about getting the kids outside more even in inclement weather.
Yesterdays weather was certainly that but rosy, happy faces made the hours drive well worth while, allowing us to take full advantage of the vast beach with only a few others and a lone horse rider for company.
