My Favourite Podcasts for Autumn – From One Tired Mum to Another

My Favourite Podcasts for Autumn – From One Tired Mum to Another

There’s something about autumn that makes me want to slow down, drink something warm, and actually breathe for a minute. As a 40-something mum juggling school runs, meal prep, never-ending laundry, trying to exercise, trying to be sociable, keeping the kids fed, clean and where they need to be at various times of the week, podcasts have become in a little way, a small pocket of peace (and sanity) in my day.

So, whether I'm walking the dog, folding socks, or hiding in the bathroom for five minutes (IYKYK), these are the podcasts I keep coming back to this autumn.

🍁 1. The Mel Robbins Podcast – For a Kick of Motivation When You’ve Hit a Wall

Let’s be honest — sometimes by 10 a.m., we've already had enough of the day - my frustrations usually revolving around packed lunches, forgotten musical instruments, water bottles and what to make for dinner - again! That’s when Mel Robbins comes in - like a no-nonsense best friend who stops you in your tracks, talks some sense and doesn’t let you spiral. She’s real, practical, and somehow always knows exactly what I need to hear on any given day.

From dealing with burnout to getting out of your own head, The Mel Robbins Podcast is like having a pep talk in your ears. I especially recommend her episodes on boundaries (yes, it’s okay to say no - no, really!) and self-doubt. My absolute favourite episode however is about how to achieve goals (EPISODE 251: HOW TO ACHIEVE ANY GOAL IN 6 STEPS) - it's so good infact I use aspects I have taken from it to keep the kids going when they are having their own stuggles with homework or sports or personal goals they want to achieve.

Listen when: You need motivation to get stuff done without losing your mind.

🍁 2. Miles with Mom’s – For Walks, Fresh Air, and Honest Mum Talk

I discovered the running podcast Miles with Mom’s when I was trying to hit my step count while walking around the block with my weighted vest (yes, sadly, I'm that person now) and it is such good fun! It’s like walking (or running) with a group of friends who get the chaos of motherhood but also know how to laugh through it.

The conversations are honest, relatable, and often hilarious — covering everything from mental load to pelvic floor mishaps (yes, they go there) from the perspective of mums who run. It's a breath of fresh air, literally and figuratively.

Listen when: You're out for a walk or run and need the company of another mum who just gets it.  It often has me laughing out loud as I walk down the street.

🍁 3. Yoga for Tired People – For When You Can’t Be Bothered But Need to Move

As someone who is permanently a bit tired, this podcast feels like a warm hug. Yoga for Tired People from Jo Hutton isn’t about perfect poses or “finding your inner goddess.” It’s about gentle, realistic movement and mindfulness that doesn’t require Lycra or a clean living room floor.

Sometimes I just walk in nature, listen, and breathe. And honestly, that’s enough.

Listen when: You’re too tired for a full yoga class but need to reset your nervous system (or hide from the kids for 20 minutes).

🍁 4. The Wellness Scoop – For Soulful Chats & Simple Wellness

I’ve followed Ella Mills (from Deliciously Ella) for years, and her podcast with nutritionist, Rhinannon Lambert The Wellness Scoop is like the grown-up, no BS grounded wellness content that we all need. It’s not about green juices and polished perfection — it’s about real conversations around mental health, food, sleep, balance, and motherhood.  It’s a thoughtful, calming pause in the week and makes me want to take better care of myself — in a gentle, doable way.

Listen when: You’re in the mood for something nourishing — for your mind, not just your stomach.

Final Thoughts – Because We’re All Just Doing Our Best

Autumn is beautiful, but it’s also busy! School routines, earlier nights, cold bugs, and Christmas lurking around the corner. But these podcasts remind me that I’m not alone, that rest matters, and that a 20-minute walk with headphones can work wonders.

So, from one tired-but-trying mum to another — put the kettle on, pop in your earbuds, and take five minutes for you. Lord knows, we all deserve it.
