STREGA NONA - TOMIE dePAOLA

After seeing the outpouring of love shown for Tomie dePaola by the fabulous Sarah MacKenzie over at The Read Aloud Revival, I though it only right that I should introduce both myself and my children to the beautiful world of the American author and illustrator.

His most famous book (out of over 250 published) , Strega Nona is an absolute classic in the USA winning the The Caldecott Medal and becoming a mainstay of the lives of millions of American preschoolers.

Living in a traditional village in the Italian hills, Strega Nona (Grandmother Witch) provides wisdom and guidance to her fellow villagers as well as curing colds and mending hearts. When she decides that she could do with some help around the house and garden, however, Big Anthony gets more than he bargained for when he meddles with Strega Nona's magic pasta pot.

This story is so lighthearted. We feel so sorry for Big Anthony when his actions bring about a situation for which he must bear the consequences but in doing so it also teaches our little ones that rules are there for very good reason.

Light, delightful and fun!
